ANDREWS, Joseph Edward - With great sorrow we wish to announce the passing of our beloved husband, dad and grandpa Joe, on June 5, 2010. He was predeceased by his parents; sisters Annie, Lucy and Polly and his brothers Steve and Emile, as well as his first beloved granddaughter, Rhonda. He is survived by Mary, his loving wife of seventy years, daughter Lorraine Mercer, son Larry (Charene) and two adoring granddaughters Ashley and Lexy Andrews, as well as by his sisters Eva Wergreniuk, Lillian (Frank) Ercse, brother-in-law Brian Spiers and several nieces and nephews in Alberta and Vancouver. Joe was born in Waugh, Alberta on January 7, 1913. After graduating from the Faculty of Education in Edmonton, he taught school for several years in Alberta before moving to B.C. in 1952 where he taught in Ladner High and finally in Burnaby South High School until his retirement. Joe was a devoted teacher as well as a family man. We shall miss him dearly. The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers of Vancouver General Hospital, particularly those in the Palliative Care Unit for their compassionate care of Joe. In respect of Joe's wishes no public funeral services will be held.
