Betty Smith SMITH, Catherine Elizabeth (Brown) Passed away July 17, 2010 at Royal Columbian Hospital after a short illness. Betty was born January 23, 1917 in Halifax, NS and moved to Winnipeg, MB where she married James Arthur Smith. The couple relocated to Trenton, ON and eventually to Burnaby with their four children. Betty was an active member of East Burnaby United Church and took on the responsibility of custodial duties retiring from this job at the age of 80. She was also a community volunteer, winning awards for her service. She impressed everyone with her strength and determination. She is predeceased by husband Art in 1986, sister Margaret Nugent in 1947, and brother Jack Brown in 1996. She is survived by all her children, Cathy Holley (David), Peter (Brenda), Pat Bradley (Ken), Judy Cartwright (John), 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 31, 2010, 11:00 am at Trinity United Church, 2211 Prairie Avenue, Port Coquitlam. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. A special thank-you to the staff of 5-South at RCH, and to her physician of over 35 years, Dr. Albrecht, for their care and dedication.
